Over the last decade, the enterprise arena has witnessed a tremendous surge in the implementation of digital technology. Digitization has successfully revolutionized businesses worldwide and is expected to continue growing in the foreseeing future. Exploring the impact of digital transformation, 451 Research, a technology research and consulting firm, recently published their ‘Voice of the Enterprise survey.’ The key takeaway—60 percent of the enterprises will move their IT operations off-premises by the end 2019. Firms are expected to widely adopt public cloud infrastructure and Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings. IT-as-a-service is expected to receive an influx of money as opposed to IT on-premises. Earlier reports by IDC also mentioned that public cloud services grew nearly 29 percent, generating revenues of $63.2 billion worldwide. Out of which, SaaS itself was accounted for over 69 percent as it helped IT departments lower costs.

In 2018, cybersecurity will also play a pivotal role in the IT transformation. According to 451 Research, over 16 percent of organizations will increase their budgets to invest in security, considering the hard-hitting breaches in 2017. As such, tech behemoths such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure will become prominent strategic technology partners in the enterprise arena. While 17 percent of the organizations prefer AWS to handle their cloud platform, Azure leads the market with the majority of 35 percent, the report noted.

Investment Roadmap for 2018 - 2019

Apart from SaaS, data-centric initiatives will be the top priority in the IT world for 2018. According to 451 Research, over 45 percent of enterprises will invent highly in Business Intelligence, while 29 percent are driven by Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, and 28 percent are focusing on Big Data. Technologies such as blockchain, biometrics, and edge computing remain at the bottom of the list of priorities, as they are just scratching the surface. As such, enterprises expect them to transcend to superior technology in the future.
